Naseem Azariah Shelter Home: A Refuge for Teen Mothers and Their Children
May 2024
Following the renovation of the school buildings, our next mission was to provide a safe and dignified living space for teen mothers and their children—some of the most vulnerable individuals in the Kitamaduni community. These young girls had endured unimaginable trauma, including abuse, rape, and neglect. Many became pregnant as a result of this mistreatment, only to be abandoned by their families, who saw them as a source of shame or an added burden they were unwilling to carry.
Kitamaduni was doing its best to shelter them, but the conditions were far from adequate. The space was overcrowded, poorly maintained, and not suitable for mothers and newborns. I knew these young women needed more than just a roof over their heads—they needed a safe, loving environment where healing could begin.
With that conviction in my heart, I began raising funds to purchase a proper home for them. Through the grace of God and the generosity of friends and supporters, in May of 2024, we were able to acquire a three-bedroom house that now serves as a secure refuge for 5 to 6 teen mothers and their children.
In honor of my beloved late mother, a woman of compassion and strength, we named it the Naseem Azariah Shelter Home. Today, this home stands as a symbol of restoration, hope, and new beginnings—for girls who were once discarded but are now cherished, protected, and given the opportunity to thrive.
